CertSight API & MCP Connector

Use your own CertSight study data from scripts, spreadsheets, and AI assistants. The API exposes your exam catalog, your personal readiness and study plan, and a free sample of questions for every exam. Paid question-bank content is never exposed through the API: sample questions are limited to the same free tier as the website, and answer keys and explanations are never included.

Endpoints

Method & pathWhat it returns
GET /api/v1/examsThe exam catalog: slug, name, category, price, and topics for every exam.
GET /api/v1/me/readiness?exam=<slug>Your per-track and overall practice stats and estimated readiness for one exam, based on your saved progress.
GET /api/v1/me/study-plan?exam=<slug>Your study plan for one exam. Active AI Exam Coach subscribers get the full coach plan; everyone else gets a basic plan computed from their practice stats.
GET /api/v1/exams/<slug>/sampleFree sample questions (question text and options only — no answer keys, no explanations), capped at the free-tier size.

Every request needs your API key, sent as Authorization: Bearer <your key> or as an X-API-Key: <your key> header. Keys are rate-limited to 120 requests per minute.

Use it from an AI assistant (MCP)

CertSight ships a small Model Context Protocol (MCP) server (mcp_server/server.py, pure Python standard library — no dependencies to install). It gives an AI assistant four tools — list_exams, get_readiness, get_study_plan, and get_sample_questions — which call this API with your key, so you can ask things like “how ready am I for Security+?” or “what should I study today?” in chat.

Claude Desktop

Add this to your Claude Desktop MCP configuration (claude_desktop_config.json), with the path pointing at the mcp_server/server.py file from CertSight:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "certsight": {
      "command": "python3",
      "args": ["/path/to/certsight/mcp_server/server.py"],
      "env": {
        "CERTSIGHT_API_KEY": "cs_live_your_key_here",
        "CERTSIGHT_API_BASE": "https://certsightprep.com"
      }
    }
  }
}

Restart Claude Desktop and the four CertSight tools appear in the tools menu.

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, enable Developer Mode (Settings → Apps & Connectors), create a new MCP connector/app, and point it at the same CertSight MCP server, providing your key through the CERTSIGHT_API_KEY environment variable exactly as in the JSON config above. Keep the key in the connector's environment/secret settings — never paste it into a chat.

Security notes

  • Your key is shown exactly once, when you create it. We store only a SHA-256 hash of it, so nobody — including us — can recover it later. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.
  • Treat your key like a password: it can read your study progress and readiness. Never share it, post it, or commit it to a code repository.
  • You can revoke a key at any time below. Revoked keys stop working immediately.
  • The API can never return paid question-bank content, answer keys, or explanations — samples are the free tier only.

Your API keys
