What it does

  • Manual accounts — cash, checking, savings, credit card, investment, or other. Balances are entered by hand; an account's live balance is its starting balance plus its signed transactions.
  • Transactions — income and expense, with date, category, account, and note. Add, edit, and delete.
  • Categories — a sensible default set, user-editable. Deleting a category moves its transactions to "Other".
  • Monthly summary — income vs spending for the selected month, plus net.
  • Charts — spending by category as plain canvas bars.
  • CSV import — standard columns are auto-detected from the header row, or you map the columns yourself. Rows with an unparseable date or amount are reported with their row number and reason and are never imported.
  • Everything runs on your computer. Data lives in a local JSON file; the only network touch is activation and deactivation.

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • No bank connections. No automatic transaction downloads. No cloud sync. No accounts. Every number in BudgetForge is one you entered or imported yourself.
  • The macOS installer is coming. It needs a Mac build, so v1 ships Windows and Linux only — the macOS download will appear here the moment it's published.
  • Human GUI click-through is still pending. The app's hands-on flows have not yet had a full human play-through pass. The licensing, checkout and activation paths are covered by automated tests; the in-app experience is v1 and we will say so plainly until that pass is done.

The macOS installer is being prepared and will appear here the moment it's published — your license key will work as soon as it's posted.

The installers are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper may show a warning on first launch — this is normal for a new publisher. On macOS, right-click the app and choose Open; on Windows, choose "More info → Run anyway".
