What it does

  • Notebooks — create, rename and delete notebooks, and move notes between them.
  • Markdown editing with live preview — headings, bold/italic, code, lists, blockquotes and links, with a preview that updates as you type.
  • Full-text search — search across all your notes, with title hits first.
  • Markdown import and export — bring notes in and take them out as plain .md files you own.
  • Everything runs on your computer. Your notes live in a local file on your machine; there are no accounts and no sync servers.

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • No sync, cloud, or collaboration. JotForge is a solo, local-first notes app — your notes do not follow you to another machine unless you move the files yourself, and the only backup is a manual .md export.
  • No attachments or images. Notes are text and Markdown only.
  • No tags, pinning, reminders, note history, or trash. Deletes are permanent.
  • The macOS installer is coming. It needs a Mac build, so v1 ships Windows and Linux only — the macOS download will appear here the moment it's published.
  • Human GUI click-through is still pending. The app's hands-on flows have not yet had a full human play-through pass. The licensing, checkout and activation paths are covered by automated tests; the in-app experience is v1 and we will say so plainly until that pass is done.

The macOS installer is being prepared and will appear here the moment it's published — your license key will work as soon as it's posted.

The installers are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper may show a warning on first launch — this is normal for a new publisher. On macOS, right-click the app and choose Open; on Windows, choose "More info → Run anyway".

One license activates on up to 3 computers, with 30-day offline trust after activation. No accounts, no telemetry, no phone-home beyond the one activation call.
