⌨️ KVMForge

📣 What this app will do for you

This app will let one keyboard and mouse drive two Windows computers side by side — install the Host app on the computer you want to control and the Client app on the computer you sit at, push your pointer off the shared screen edge, and your keyboard and mouse work on the other machine, with text clipboard sync, paste-by-typing, and Wake-on-LAN, over your local network or your own VPN. Connections are encrypted, and the Host must approve pairing before anything can control it. Heads up: Windows downloads today as unsigned portable builds (SmartScreen will warn); the macOS builds are in preparation, are covered by this purchase when they arrive, and are not downloadable yet. Both computers must be on, booted, and running KVMForge — this is software, not a hardware KVM: no BIOS or pre-boot access, no control of a powered-off machine, and no ISO booting. Backed by a 7-day money-back guarantee.

One keyboard and mouse, two computers. Sit at one machine and drive the second one beside it: push your pointer off the edge of your screen and your keyboard and mouse are working on the other computer. No cloud account, no subscription, no third-party server ever sees your input — connections run directly between your two machines, over your local network or your own VPN.

$19.99 one-time price. No subscription. Yours forever.

Two small apps, one purchase

  • Install Host on the computer you want to control. The Host listens for a connection, approves pairing, receives your keyboard and mouse input, and shows a red "being controlled by" banner the whole time a session is live. It can stop a session or turn control off entirely, at any moment.
  • Install Client on the computer with your keyboard and mouse. The Client finds Hosts on your network (or connects by IP address), captures your keyboard and mouse, syncs the clipboard, and sends Wake-on-LAN. This is the app you actually sit at.
  • Pair once, with proof. The first time a Client connects, the Host shows a pairing request with a fingerprint and a 6-digit code; the Client shows the same code. You approve on the Host only if the codes match. After that the two machines recognise each other by fingerprint — a computer that has not been paired can never inject input.

What it does

  • Edge-crossing control. Push the pointer off the shared edge of the Client's screen (the Host can sit left, right, above, or below) and it appears on the Host's screen, mapped proportionally between different resolutions. Move back across the edge to return.
  • Two mouse modes. Absolute mode (the default) maps your pointer position onto the Host's screen; relative mode sends raw movement for games and apps that capture the pointer. Switch in the app or with a hotkey.
  • Keyboard forwarding that can't strand you. Your escape hotkey works even if the Host hangs — a watchdog returns control to your own machine automatically if the Host stops responding, and every key is released on both sides whenever a session ends. No stuck keys.
  • Clipboard sync, both ways (text). Copy on one machine, paste on the other, with an echo-loop guard and a 64 KB cap. Anything bigger is never sent silently: you choose to type it instead, or send an explicitly truncated copy.
  • Paste-text. For fields that block paste, KVMForge can type a block of text into the Host as keystrokes instead. It's cancellable midway — and honest that text already typed stays typed. Characters follow the Host's keyboard layout (US, UK, German, Swedish, Finnish, and French AZERTY are supported).
  • Grab selection. A hotkey copies whatever is selected on the Host and pulls it into the Client's clipboard.
  • Encrypted connections. Client and Host talk over mutual TLS with certificates pinned by fingerprint at pairing. There is no relay and no cloud in the path.
  • Wake-on-LAN. The Client can send a wake-up packet to a paired Host — it works only if that computer has Wake-on-LAN enabled in its BIOS/NIC settings, and the app labels it that way.
  • Works past your desk. Auto-discovery covers your local network; manual IP connect means the same pair works across your own VPN (for example Tailscale or WireGuard).

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • Windows downloads today. Both apps are Windows portable .exe builds — there is no installer yet. The macOS builds are in preparation (Mac apps must be compiled on a Mac): they are covered by this same purchase at no extra charge when they arrive, but there is no Mac download yet, and we won't pretend otherwise.
  • The apps are unsigned. Windows SmartScreen will warn on first launch ("Windows protected your PC"). Choose "More info → Run anyway" — only for the files you downloaded from this page after buying.
  • Both computers must be on and running. KVMForge works while both machines are powered on, booted into Windows, unlocked, and running KVMForge.
  • This is software, not a hardware KVM. There is no BIOS or pre-boot access, no control of a powered-off or crashed machine, and no mounting ISO images or virtual media to boot from — those need a hardware KVM device (the JetKVM class). There is also no video feed: you look at the controlled computer's own monitor, which is why a side-by-side desk setup is the intended use.
  • Windows protects some screens. Injected input cannot reach UAC prompts, the secure desktop, or the sign-in screen — Windows blocks that by design, for every app of this kind.
  • Verification status. The pairing, protocol, and control behaviour are covered by the app's automated test suite (25 tests, including a real encrypted loopback session between the two apps' cores). A hands-on run across two physical computers is still owed, and we say so until it's done.

If any of the above is a deal-breaker for you, KVMForge isn't for you yet — and we'd rather tell you now than after checkout.
