What it does

  • Drag, drop, done — add songs (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG and more) and StemForge separates each one. Queue a whole album; it works through them in order.
  • Five files per song, written in a folder right next to the song: vocals (the acapella), drums, bass, other (guitars, keys, synths) — plus a ready-made instrumental track with the vocals removed, for karaoke and practice.
  • Real AI separation — the Demucs neural network, the same model family the pros use, running entirely on your own machine. Your songs are never uploaded anywhere.
  • Built-in previews — audition every stem in the app before you use it in your DAW, sampler or DJ set.

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • Outputs are WAV files. That's the format producers and DJs actually want (lossless, DAW-ready) — but if you need MP3 exports, v1 doesn't do that; any free converter can turn the WAVs into MP3s.
  • macOS needs Apple Silicon (M1 or later). The AI runtime doesn't ship an Intel Mac build, so there is no Intel Mac version of StemForge — the download below is Apple Silicon only. Windows 10/11 (64-bit) is fully supported.
  • Separation takes a little time. Roughly a minute or two per song on a typical laptop, computed locally. The first separation downloads the 158 MB AI model once; after that everything works fully offline.
  • AI separation isn't magic. Busy mixes, heavy reverb and live recordings separate less cleanly than studio recordings. The stems are excellent for karaoke, remixes, sampling and practice — not a replacement for the original multitracks.
