What it does

  • Holdings — ticker, shares, cost basis per share, and notes. Add, edit, and delete.
  • Manual prices — enter a price per holding whenever you like; it is always available.
  • Computed value and gain/loss — per holding and for the whole portfolio. Holdings with no price are shown as unpriced, never as zero, and totals say how many holdings they cover.
  • Optional fetched prices — only when you click "Fetch price" or "Refresh fetched prices". Every fetched price is labeled with its source (Yahoo Finance) and as-of time; a failed fetch falls back to your last manual price with a clear "price unavailable" note.
  • Everything runs on your computer. Portfolio data lives in a local JSON file; the only network touches are activation/deactivation and the optional price fetch.

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • No brokerage connections. No automatic sync. No recommendations. No investment advice. StockForge tracks what you tell it — it never tells you what to buy.
  • Fetched prices come from Yahoo Finance's undocumented chart endpoint, which may rate-limit or change. If it stops working reliably, the fetcher degrades to manual-only — a price is never guessed, and a stale fetched price is never presented as current.
  • The macOS installer is coming. It needs a Mac build, so v1 ships Windows and Linux only — the macOS download will appear here the moment it's published.
  • Human GUI click-through is still pending. The app's hands-on flows have not yet had a full human play-through pass. The licensing, checkout and activation paths are covered by automated tests; the in-app experience is v1 and we will say so plainly until that pass is done.

The installers are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper may show a warning on first launch — this is normal for a new publisher. On macOS, right-click the app and choose Open; on Windows, choose "More info → Run anyway".
