✍️ WriteForge

📣 What this app will do for you

This app will give you a word processor that keeps every document on your own computer — a block-based editor with paragraphs, three heading levels, and bullet items, bold, italic, and underline on the text you select, editable tables, find and replace, print, a live word count, and saves as a real .docx with Word heading styles, as Markdown, or as plain text. It opens .docx files by converting them into its own block model, with inline formatting preserved. Heads up: that import drops images and link URLs (link text is kept) and imports numbered lists as bullets; there is no autosave — saves are Save-As — opening a .md file treats it as plain paragraphs, and find and replace is plain-text with no regex. No cloud sync, no collaboration, no AI. Backed by a 7-day money-back guarantee.

What it does

  • A block-based editor. A document is a stack of blocks — one per paragraph, heading, or list item — each with its own type picker: Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, or a bullet list item. Click "+ Block" to add another. There is no page layout to fight: what you see is a clean stack of text blocks, and every save format derives from those same blocks.
  • Format the text you select. Select any run of text inside a block and make it bold, italic, or underlined — with toolbar buttons or Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, and Ctrl+U. Formatting lives on the selected words, not the whole block.
  • Tables. Insert a table and edit it in place — cells hold text with the same inline formatting, and tables export as real tables to .docx and Markdown, and print with the document.
  • Find & replace. Search the whole document with a live match count, and replace one match or all of them.
  • Print. Print the document itself — just your text, tables, and formatting, without the app's toolbars or window chrome.
  • A live word count. The status bar keeps a running word count of the whole document as you type.
  • Real .docx export. "Save .docx" writes a genuine Word document: headings become real Word heading styles (Heading 1, 2, and 3), list blocks become bullets, inline formatting carries over, and tables become real Word tables.
  • .docx import keeps the formatting. Opening a Word file converts it into WriteForge's own block model (through the mammoth converter): headings, paragraphs, list items, and tables come across as blocks, and inline formatting — bold, italics, underlines — is preserved. Read the scope notes below for the few things that conversion still drops.
  • Markdown and plain-text saves too. "Save .md" writes Markdown (headings as # markers, list items as - bullets) and "Save .txt" writes plain text. WriteForge can also open .md and .txt files, reading them as paragraphs split at blank lines — Markdown symbols in an opened file are treated as ordinary text, not styling.
  • Deactivate from inside the app. A "Deactivate" button in the toolbar frees that computer's activation slot when you replace a machine — no support ticket, no waiting.
  • Everything stays on your computer. Documents are read and written only through your system's open/save dialogs, on your own drives. No cloud sync, no collaboration, no AI in v1. The only requests WriteForge ever makes to CertSight are the activation and deactivation checks. No telemetry.

⚠️ Scope notes — read before you buy

  • .docx import still drops a few things. Images in a Word file don't come across, and links lose their URLs (the link text is kept, as plain text). Numbered lists import as bullet lists. Everything else structural — headings, paragraphs, bullet lists, tables, and inline formatting — is preserved, but WriteForge is still not a Word replacement: .docx is an interchange format here, best for drafts and simply formatted documents.
  • No autosave. WriteForge doesn't save in the background — saving is always Save-As to a .docx, .md, or .txt file, when you choose to do it.
  • Find & replace is plain-text. It matches literal text only — no regular expressions, no whole-word or case options.
  • No images, no spell checker, no page layout. Blocks hold text and tables — there is still no way to insert images, and no spell checker, font choice, or page-layout controls (margins, columns, headers). Exported .docx files use Word's default styling for the heading styles.
  • Windows only for now. The download below is a Windows portable build. There is no macOS or Linux build yet — we'd rather say that plainly than promise one. Your license will work on those builds if and when they're published.
  • Human GUI click-through is still pending. Checkout, licensing, and activation are covered end to end by automated tests, but the app's hands-on flows have not yet had a full human play-through on a real Windows machine — the in-app experience is v1 and we will say so plainly until that pass is done.

If any of the above is a deal-breaker for you, v1 isn't for you yet — and we'd rather tell you now than after checkout.

Download

Windows 10/11 (64-bit), portable build — no installer, just download and run.

macOS and Linux are not available yet. There is no build for them today; if one is published later, this same license key will activate it.

The app is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning on first launch — this is normal for a new publisher. Choose "More info → Run anyway" to start it.

How activation works: at checkout your license key is emailed to you (and can be shown on screen right after payment). Enter it on the app's activation screen — one license activates on up to 3 computers, with 30-day offline trust after activation. Replacing a computer? Use "Deactivate" inside the app to free its slot, or generate a fresh key from your account page (the old key stops working).
